Gerald G. Burke 1945-1969 On December 5, 1969, a young father named Gerald Burke was murdered in Hamilton, Ontario. He left behind a wife and two infant children, Robert and Darrin. On January 23, 1971, a young father named Gary Staples was wrongly convicted of the crime. Thankfully, he was later acquitted and released from prison. However, Mr. Staples has never been officially exonerated, and the murderer or murderers of Gerald Burke have never been brought to justice. We, the family, friends and supporters of Gary Staples, and of Gerald Burke's sons, Robert and Darrin, have formed this Network for Justice in Hamilton in an effort to see justice done for all. On the following pages, you can read about the murder, the wrongful conviction, the subsequent acquittal, the failure of the Hamilton police to continue any meaningful investigation into the unsolved murder, and the resulting twists of fate that led to the wrongly convicted man and the family of the deceased victim coming together in this venture that ultimately led to a lawsuit against the Hamilton police to force a competent investigation. Please join us in our quest to see justice done ~ our quest to see an innocent man exonerated and to see the guilty party or parties caught and brought to justice. |
